The wonderful apple (sometimes with the addition of pear) brandy called Calvados is still very much an artisanal product, crafted by small producers, often on the farm where the apples are grown. The apples are made into cider which is then distilled twice and then allowed to rest and age in oak casks. The product is then either blended or bottled as a product of a single vintage. These superb spirits are comparable with good vintage Cognacs and make great presents. We don't always have all the older vintages in stock, but we can usually order bottles in within a week. We also stock delicious Somerset cider brandy for a local English take on apple brandy |
