Armagnac is made in the Gers area of South East France, further inland than Cognac and therefore with a slightly hotter climate. The differences between Cognac and Armagnac are not that clear cut, especially now that Charantais Pot Stills are often now used in Armagnac production as well as in Cognac. However, it is often said that Cognac is somewhat lighter and more elegant than Armagnac which tends to be richer and more firey. These though are generalisations and fine Armagnac is every bit as good as fine Cognac as we hope our selection will show! The region is divided into 3 regions for the purposes of Armagnac production: Bas Armagnac, La Ténarèze and Haut Armagnac, and each has its own characteristics. Armagnac can also be made from either a blend of grape varieties or single varietals (such as Folle Blanche or Bacco), which again affects the flavours of the final spirit. We try to always have a representative range in stock and can order many special vintages from 1900 onwards for that special anniversary - just ask!
